Den Tom Tom Club, das Paar Tina Weymouth und Chris Frantz von den Talking Heads, verbindet man gemeinhin mit den Hits ihres ersten Albums Wordy Rappinghood und Genius of Love. Das hatten sie für Chris Blackwells Island Label in Jamaica aufgenommen und selbst produziert, als der eingeplant Lee Perry nicht auftauchte.
Bis 2000 veröffenlichten sie fünf weitere Alben, seit 1992 mit dem jamaikanischen Sänger Mystic Bowie. Im Oktober 2001 nahmen sie im Clubhouse Music Studio auf Cock Island in Connecticut, wo sie inzwischen leben, vor Freunden ein Livealbum mit ihren besten Songs und Lieblingscovern auf, dass 2002 erschien. Frantz sagte, man habe zu der Zeit zum einen eine tolle Liveband zusammen gehabt, die man aufnehmen wollte. Zum anderen wollte man kuz nach 9 /11 eine positive Botschaft aussenden.

Das in Los Angeles ansässige Label Nacional Records, das sich eigentlich für die “neuen Sounds Lateinamerikas” zuständige sieht (u. a. Bostich + Fussible), veröffentlicht dieses Album am 28. September neu und fügt noch eine Remix-CD dazu. Das Besondere: Alle Remixer haben, dem Roster dees Labels entsprechend, einen lateinamerikanischen Hintergrund. So kommt zu dem sowieso schon im besten Sinne “weltmusikalisch” geprägten Sound des Tom Tom Club noch eine weitere internationale Note dazu. Weymouth und Frantz werden zudem zum ersten Mal seit zehn Jahren wieder auf eine ausgedehnte US-Tour gehen. Ob danach auch Europa – und der deutschsprachige Raum – eingeplant ist, wurde noch nicht bekannt gegeben.
The Tom Clubs last full length album, a liverecording Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz did with their then tour band in front of friends near their home in Conneticut in October 2001, will be reissued by National Records along with a second CD of remixes by Latin American remixers.
